Summer 2020: Home School of Rugby
Connection. Progression. Competition.
Adversity is Opportunity
Sport is struggling. Due to the worldwide Covid-19 Pandemic, we have lost opportunities for competition, development, and most importantly connections. But like in all things, adversity is opportunity to grow and improve. Over the last month we have worked hard to create a platform that will allow teams to connect, learn, and grow together. This program is about connection. It is about laughing, and fun, and engagement. This program is about growth. It is about learning, and developing, and growing as an athlete. This program is about necessity. It is about learning to face life’s adversities and come out stronger.
The Home School of Rugby (HSoR) program is designed to be an all-inclusive package delivered to small groups or teams (although individual participation is effective as well). The program has intermediate and advanced versions, and is designed for both high school and adult rugby players.
Participating teams will break into small groups (4-6 people/group recommended and no more than 8) and compete weekly for which group can earn the most points and subsequently win that week! And just like in sport, points are tallied, wins are allocated, league standings are set, and a champion is declared!!
HSoR addresses the technical, tactical, physical, mental, and relational aspects of Rugby over the span of eight weeks. Included are essential healthy habits, fitness and speed development, as well as progressing rugby skills using video and imagery. Upon completion, participants can expect to have become more technically proficient, tactically aware, physically fit, mentally strong, and relationally reliable.
Dates
Groups and individuals working outside of a team format can choose their own start dates. A team (split into groups of 4-6) will need to have all groups starting at the same time. The program runs for eight consecutive weeks.
Location
The program is designed to be completed almost entirely from the comfort of your own home, with the exception of speed trainings, which will require a green space (60m long). Social distancing approved!
Trainings
Although there are no formal ‘practices’, the program does consist of many smaller parts, all built for a flexible schedule. Time commitments include weekly personal sport development (~90 mins) and daily healthy habits for physical and mental strength (30mins/day). Groups will get together once a week to take on their weekly challenges and competitions. Finally, teams will conclude each week by bringing together all groups to review the week’s results and challenge one another to a final face off before the points are tallied.
